Some life experiences can be deeply meaningful—and deeply challenging.

Many of us grow up with expectations about how life is supposed to unfold—that experiences will follow a predictable path, make sense over time, and resolve on their own. These narratives can shape how we understand ourselves and our reactions long before we recognize their impact.

While there can be moments of truth in these beliefs, many people find themselves struggling when reality doesn’t align with what they expected. When emotions such as anxiety, grief, anger, or overwhelm surface—sometimes without a clear trigger—it can feel confusing, isolating, and difficult to manage alone.

Overwhelming or distressing experiences, including trauma, loss, chronic stress, or events that felt out of your control, can leave a lasting emotional imprint. The pressure to “move on” or “handle it better,” along with intrusive or distressing thoughts, can create self-doubt or fear that things will always feel this way.
